Slip-and-fall claim takes more than four years to add contractor as defendant

Recently passed law drastically reduces claim period

An Ontario snow contractor has been named as a defendant in a personal injury lawsuit after more than four years since an alleged slip-and-fall accident. The Ontario government has since passed Bill 118 which amends the Occupiers’ Liability Act to bar snow and ice personal injury suits unless written notice is presented within a 60-day period from the time of the accident.
