Sensitive green space mowed over in Montreal; city wants protection from feds
Space a key feeding ground for butterflies
July 6, 2022 By Turf & Rec

The City of Montreal wants the federal government to step in to protect one of the city’s last remaining green spaces. The land in question is owned by the federal government and leased by Aéroports de Montréal (ADM). Environmentalists say the green space was recently mowed over by ADM staff, noting thousands of flowers were eliminated in the process. The flowers were viewed as key feeding grounds for monarch butterflies which are considered an endangered species.
