Public outcry coerces Elliot Lake council not to sell Stone Ridge Golf Course to investor
Public baffled by city's handling of affair
February 24, 2022 By Turf & Rec

The City of Elliot Lake, Ont. has responded to the community’s public outcry and has opted not to sell the municipal Stone Ridge Golf Course. The decision comes after six weeks of closed-door meetings. A proposal had been made to sell the property to a private investor for $1.5 million, but the public was baffled by council’s handling of the affair, including the cheap price, the lack of an appraisal prior to a sale, why the property wasn’t placed on the open market, and why it was being done so quickly. A petition against the sale garnered about 1,000 signatures.
