Provincial funding for Nanaimo sports field project will go toward increased seating

Funding earmarked for tourism-related infrastructure

Provincial funding aimed at boosting British Columbia’s tourism-related infrastructure will help a multi-sport stadium project in Nanaimo.

A medium-sized stadium is to be built next to Nanaimo District Secondary School, and the announcement of $1 million in provincial funding will be used to install bleachers for 800 spectators.  The bleachers are to be installed on the west side of q’uniq’inuqwstuxw Stadium and will include both media and coaches’ booths. The city anticipates the artificial turf field stadium will eventually accommodate about 1,500 people and will be used for both school and community sporting activities.

A paved plaza sits between q’uniq’inuqwstuxw and Serauxmen stadiums while the Rotary Bowl was added last year. The three facilities have proven to be a benefit to the local sports community.

Serauxmen Stadium continues to be overhauled with additional seating slated later this year along its third-base side.
