The part-owner of the Root River Golf Club in Sault Ste. Marie says government decisions to shut down amenities, such as golf courses, should be made according to region and not as a one-size-fits-all measure. Harvey Barsanti says the number of active COVID-19 cases in his region is comparatively small in comparison with those in Ontario’s hot spots, and there is no need for golf to be mothballed locally. Root River had planned to open for the season this coming weekend.

    This problem is much bigger than golf. Currmet government and administration are making rules based upon the needs of Toronto which are often very wrong for the rest of Ontario, especially rural areas. This has been going on for far too long and requires a solution that perhaps only separation can resolve.
