DUPONT Professional Products has entered into an exclusive agreement with Agrium Advanced Technologies to distribute DuPont Acelepryn insecticide. “We are very excited to partner with DuPont and bring this new class of chemistry to the Canadian marketplace,” said Doug Hubble, sales and marketing manager for Agrium. “With its proven performance and environmental attributes, Acelepryn will fill a very important need for our customers.” Independent university researchers have confirmed that the mode of action for Acelepryn provides superior control of the key white grub species and other important turf insects, including annual bluegrass weevils and cutworms. Its other attributes include the ability to control multiple pests with a single, early application; lower application rates for white grub control; an active ingredient with a lower water solubility than any white grub control product; an entirely new class of chemistry and mode of action active ingredient; and an active ingredient classified as reduced risk by the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency for applications on turfgrass with a low impact on beneficial arthropods as well as birds, bees, fish and mammals. It is approved for use to control key pests infesting landscape and recreational turf in Canada.
GOLF course superintendents and sod farmers have a new tool to combat key turf diseases with the recent label expansion for Rhapsody® ASO approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). Rhapsody ASO is a broad-spectrum, preventative biofungicide for the suppression of key diseases in turf, including brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani), dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminciola). “We know golf course superintendents are under increasing pressure from members and the public to reduce the environmental load of the pesticides they use. And while local bylaws and provincial bans may not have as direct an impact on golf courses just yet, as they do for those working in other areas of turf care, there’s a lot more discussion about it these days,” said Janet Porchak, national marketing and communications manager for UAP, the distributor of Rhapsody ASO in Canada. “That’s why this registration for Rhapsody ASO is welcome news because it fills an important void in the arsenal of tools available to superintendents.” Rhapsody ASO is registered for use in turf in all provinces, including Ontario. It’s registered for use on bluegrass, bentgrass, fescue, ryegrass and orchard grass. This includes fairways, tees, greens and roughs. It’s recommended that Rhapsody ASO be applied with sufficient water to provide thorough coverage and as part of a program with other registered fungicides for resistance management. Rhapsody is also used for disease suppression in flowers, greenhouse vegetables and ornamentals.

EARTH & Turf Products, LLC, has announced new, higher-capacity models in its line of topdresser spreaders. The new, larger units can be classified in two categories: The LANCO ST-100 Series models are 1.0 cubic yard mounted or 1.0 cubic yard pull-type topdressers with galvanized hoppers. They offer a choice of tractor hydraulics or 13-hp Honda engine-driven hydraulics, with standard or deluxe controls. Standard turf tires are 25.6 X 14-12 NHS turf for maximum flotation. If the LANCO ST-100 is not large enough to handle the needs, three additional, larger capacity topdressers offer capacities of 3.5, 5.0 or 6.5 cubic yards. They can spread dry or wet material of all kinds, many with more than 40-feet-wide spread pattern. These topdressers have a 31-inch wide, crescent-style conveyor belt and a 15-inch X 31-inch metering gate opening for quick unloading withour bridging. These units will also offer “pin-on" attachments. Their large capacity drastically cuts labour cost and reduces trips. Large, 33-15.0 X 16.5 flotation tires are standard for low ground pressure and good stability.
