New dollar spot fungicide gets Canadian registration

October 19, 2016  By  Mike Jiggens

A new fungicide for the control of dollar spot has been registered for use in Canada. Pinpoint™ fungicide, a product of Valent Canada and Nufarm Agriculture, optimizes disease management programs for golf course superintendents by providing consistent turf quality throughout the season while helping combat dollar spot resistance.

The active ingredient in Pinpoint is mandestrobin, a new strobilurin (Qol) fungicide that specifically controls dollar spot. It is effective against dollar spot on turf, and also provides control of brown patch, fairy ring, take-all patch and suppression of rust.

“Pinpoint offers control on a variety of turf diseases, but its strength is offering unique and targeted activity against dollar spot,” said Sabrina Bladon, eastern marketing manager at Nufarm Agriculture. “Pinpoint fits multiple spray programs from early season through late season whenever dollar spot control is needed.”

Pinpoint has been under field development with numerous researchers since 2006 in both the U.S. and Canada. It has demonstrated consistent performance in controlling dollar spot.

“We’re excited to be able to supply superintendents with an additional tool to help them keep their greens and fairways healthy and dollar spot free,” said Jason Fausey, director of
technical services, turf & ornamentals for Nufarm. “Pinpoint provides powerful dollar spot control, provides excellent turf safety, and enhances the stewardship of disease resistance management programs.”

Pinpoint is labeled for use on turf and lawn sites, including golf courses, lawns and landscape areas around residential, institutional, public, commercial and industrial buildings, parks, recreational areas, athletic fields and sod farms.

Pinpoint is a member of FRAC Group 11 and is best used preventively in a rotation program. It provides an additional management option for dollar spot and is an ideal rotation partner for other classes of chemistry such as SDHI (Spectrum Succinate Dehydrogenase Inhibitors) fungicides, helping to optimize all the tools available in a comprehensive disease resistance management program.

Pinpoint is available exclusively through Nufarm in Canada and the U.S.
