Penticton council approves low-pile artificial turf surface for its indoor Sportsplex

New playing surface to cost $300,000

A new artificial turf playing surface will be laid this summer at Penticton, B.C.’s Sportsplex. Council voted 5-1 to approve the $300,000 low-pile surface. The lone vote opposing the plan was cast by Coun. James Miller, who believes the existing surface isn’t ready to be removed. The city also explored the possibility of mid-pile turf and a vinyl multi-sport flooring surface for the indoor sports facility. User groups at the Sportsplex play such sports as soccer, baseball, lacrosse, tennis and ultimate frisbee.
