Pelham, Ont. ponders how to keep sports field needs on pace with town’s growth

Draft plan looking at multi-purpose sports, recreation park

April 24, 2023  By Turf & Rec

Continued growth in the Town of Pelham, Ont. has increased the need for more sports fields.

A draft recreation master plan has been presented to council, outlining how the town can meet its recreational needs over the next 10 years. The municipality is expected to grow by 16 per cent over the next decade and will need to build a new multi-purpose park with soccer and baseball fields and other sports amenities to accommodate the growth.

Finding adequate land could pose a challenge for such a project, and a further recommendation of the plan was to work with local schools to use their fields. One councillor said collaborating with schools is an opportunity to utilize existing green space.

An open house has been scheduled for May 2 to give the public another opportunity to offer their input on the draft plan.
