The Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation is helping to fund four research projects at three North American universities.
Two projects are being conducted at the University of Guelph:
• Testing probiotics to reduce nitrogen fertilizer & water usage in turfgrasses (led by Dr. Manish Raizada)
• Evaluation of overseeding sports fields with new species and cultivars (led by Dr. Eric Lyons)
At Oregon State University, the OTRF is supporting research led by Dr. Alexander Kowalewski. His research is an evaluation of stress response characteristics facilitated by endophytes in commercially available perennial ryegrass, tall fescue and fine fescue cultivars.
Dr. Florence Sessoms is leading a research project at the University of Minnesota, supported by the OTRF, that is evaluating cold tolerance of tall fescue cultivars after de-hardening events.
The OTRF is marking its 44th year as a charitable foundation that supports turfgrass research.
