Ontario county to consider proposed bylaw that allows lawn naturalization flexibility
Prince Edward County bylaw could allow for longer, weedier lawns
April 13, 2023 By Turf & Rec
Prince Edward County in Ontario is poised to be more flexible about naturalized lawns.
The municipality’s committee of the whole is to receive a report this week that could lead to the creation of a new bylaw that allows lawns to be maintained higher and with more flexible weed cover limitations.
The move is seen as a way that provides greater habitat for native wildlife and is more sustainable.
A Toronto Metropolitan University professor is to address council, recommending a change in terminology for the proposed bylaw. She suggests changing the word “allowing” naturalization to “supporting” property owners’ rights to naturalize their properties.
