Online petition launched to stop proposed sale of municipal golf course in Elliot Lake, Ont.

$1.5-million offer to buy Stone Ridge Golf Course

February 15, 2022  By Turf & Rec

Efforts to block the sale of the city-owned Stone Ridge Golf Course in Elliot Lake, Ont. are being bolstered by an online petition.

City council has been urged to accept a $1.5-million offer by a numbered company to purchase the municipal course.

Those launching the petition to persuade council not to sell say there was a lack of public input involved in determining the fate of the property.

The petition reads: “”Ultimately, we as citizens of Elliot Lake want to ensure that we do not lose our golf course. We are a community without a civic centre, without a curling club and without a recreation centre amongst other things. We are asking that a decision on this matter be deferred until these questions can be adequately answered so we don’t end up losing our golf course as well.”

The next meeting of city council is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. It will be streamed live on the city’s website.
