Oakville lays off more than 800 part-timers amid sports field closures, program cancellations

The closure of all sports fields and the cancellation of all spring recreation and culture programs has resulted in the layoffs of more than 800 part-time staff in the City of Oakville. Mayor Rob Burton said the measures were taken to support actions aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, adding closed facilities will reopen only once it is safe to do so.
