Nova Scotia government nixes proposal for new Cape Breton golf course
Opposition groups applaud government's stand against developing provincial park land
April 21, 2023 By Turf & Rec

A new golf course at Cape Breton’s West Mabou Beach Provincial Park isn’t going to happen, the Nova Scotia government has determined.
Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton has said there is nothing within the Provincial Parks Act to allow construction of a new golf course at the site. The owners of Cape Breton’s Cabot golf courses had hoped to build a third course on the island on land at the provincial park.
Approval was first sought in 2018 to develop the land for golf. Last fall, the desire to build again became public with the developers seeking provincial support.
Opposition groups to the golf course proposal are applauding the ministry’s stand on the issue.
