Winnipeg to celebrate Arbor Day June 3

May 31, 2017  By  Mike Jiggens

Saturday, June 3 is Arbor Day in Winnipeg with an event called All Trees Tell a Story highlighting the day at the city’s St. Vital Park.

The 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. event is a joint venture between Trees Winnipeg and the prairie chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. Professional arborists from the city will help lead the celebrations.

Among the events scheduled for the day include zip line rides into the upper canopy of an elm tree, self-propelled tree climbing for both children and adults, bucket truck rides to allow elevated views of Winnipeg’s skyline, chain saw carving demonstrations, crafts, storytelling tents, and information booths.

City arborist Nick Wagstaff said the day’s events present an opportunity for the public to celebrate the many benefits of trees.
