Select CGSA golfers eyeing first CanAm Cup

October 6, 2016  By  Mike Jiggens

A select group of more than 200 members of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) will engage in the inaugural CanAm Cup golf tournament, to be played Oct. 23-24 in New Jersey.

The event will be played at the legendary Baltusrol Golf Club (Upper and Lower courses) in Springfield and the Canoe Brook Country Club (North and South courses) in Summit.

“I think we have hit on something great for our two organizations,” said James Beebe, president of the CGSA. “Our superintendent associations were forged on cooperation and learning from each other. Now, we will get to do that more than ever before while enriching our long-standing annual Fall Field Day history with this event.”

CGSA is one of the sponsoring organizations for the event, along with the GCSAA.

The event is expected to build on the rich history of the CGSA’s Fall Field Day which has been held annually in Canada since 1966. It will also feature continuing education, team networking receptions and the chance to visit New York City.

“It’s an honour to win at the Royal Montreal Golf Course, being such a historic course, but it’s been the entire experience participating in the CGSA Fall Field Day,” reflected Louis Patton, assistant superintendent at Mystic Pines Golf and Country Club in Kahnawake, Que. and champion of the 2016 Fall Field Day.  “I can’t wait until next year, to participate in the CanAm Cup in New Jersey.”
