Canada is serving as the host country Sept. 17-22 for the 59th International Garden Centre Association Congress. The annual event, hosted by a different country each year, showcases the best retailers from around the world to an elite group of garden centre owners and operators. About 250 participants from 21 countries are expected this year.
The participating garden centres, nurseries and gardens that will be visited during the event include Cole’s Florist and Garden Centre, Connon Nurseries, Sheridan Nurseries Toronto, the Toronto Botanical Garden, Winkelmolen Nursery, Holland Park Garden Gallery, Terra Greenhouses Milton, Van Dongen’s Garden Centre, Sheridan Nurseries Georgetown, Humber Nurseries, Pathways to Perennials, Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery, and Vermeer’s Garden Centre and Flower Shop.
In addition to the garden centre visits, guests from around the world will tour such other Southern Ontario sites as the Hockey Hall of Fame, Jackson Triggs Vineyard and Niagara Falls. Morning business sessions and a new interactive tour are being offered, allowing garden centres time to exchange best practices, ideas and knowledge with one another at this week-long event.
Other highlights of the week are to include a celebratory evening event, the Canada 150 Gala, featuring Jim Diodati, Mayor of Niagara Falls, and masters of ceremony Frank Ferragine (aka Frankie Flowers) and Denis Flanagan. Guests will attend wearing something red in honour of Canada’s 150 birthday. Dinner, dancing and the closing ceremonies will take place at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel.
