Jan. 29, 2019 – In spite of a petition circulated to save an iconic tree from being removed in downtown Victoria, B.C., work crews removed the 30-year-old tree yesterday to make way for bike lanes and a crosswalk. Onlookers who wanted the tree spared said they were "heartbroken" and felt the "heart and soul" of the downtown had been removed.
