London council ends River Road debate, voting 9-5 to close municipal course
Supporters argue course could prosper during pandemic
February 17, 2021 By CBC News
The door has closed at London’s River Road Golf Course. The municipal course has been deemed a money loser for some time, and city council has voted 9-5 to permanently shut it down and sell the land. The course didn’t open in 2020, even though golf largely prospered across the board amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A city councillor who opposed River Road’s closure argued it was too early to make such a decision, suggesting that keeping it open in 2021 could gauge how it could perform with few other options for recreational activity.
