Joyriding ATV vandals tear up five holes at Vanderhoof, B.C. golf course property

Golf season to start with back nine opening while repairs are made to damaged front nine holes

The Omineca Golf Club in Vanderhoof, B.C. was on the verge of opening for the 2023 season until disaster struck last weekend.

Between $10,000 and $20,000 in damages were realized after vandals tore up fairways while driving ATVs on the golf course over the weekend. Much of the course’s front nine was significantly damaged.

The act of vandalism has forced a staggered opening to the season with the back nine holes opening this weekend while repairs are made to the damaged front nine. Course manager Steve Little said it might take a week or two before the front nine can open for play.

It’s suspected the culprits entered the property through back bushes and then spun “doughnuts” on the turf. Five of the golf course’s 18 holes were damaged.
