Golf courses serving as homeless shelter areas will have negative effect, experts say

Homeless will be too far from needed services

Turning two municipal golf courses on the outskirts of London, Ont. into winter homeless shelter grounds will actually have a negative effect on a plan based on good intentions, community outreach workers with Sanctuary London say. They suggest living in the downtown area is key to the health and well-being of the homeless who would be closer to necessary services. The city has planned winter shelters to be located at the River Road and Fanshawe municipal golf courses.
