Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club files lawsuit against city over massive water rate increase
New bylaw increases rate five-fold
June 17, 2022 By Turf & Rec
Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club is suing the City of Kelowna after the municipality increased the club’s water rates five-fold from 2021 to 2024. The increase ranges from $15,300 in 2021 to an expected $74,800 in 2024. The club had previously purchased non-potable water at an agricultural rate, but a recently enacted bylaw denies area golf courses of the cheaper rate. As part of the lawsuit, the golf course alleges the city did not give ample notice about the policy change.
