Excessive mud, water and ice on sports fields delay season openers in Winnipeg
Field conditions deemed unsafe after winter blast
April 28, 2022 By Turf & Rec

With May only a couple of days away, soccer and baseball fields in Winnipeg aren’t ready for players to take to the turf. Mud, water and ice are still covering many fields as the area was forced to endure a late season blast of winter.
Soccer season was to have started on Monday while baseball was set to begin this weekend. Field conditions are deemed unsafe, forcing local sports associations to postpone their openings.
Soccer groups hope to begin play by May 9 while baseball anticipates a May 16 start.
