City council in Elliot Lake, Ont. has quashed a motion that would have kick-started the process of selling its city-owned Stone Ridge Golf Course to a private investor. The selling price was said to be $1.5 million. The city’s mayor said opposition to the course’s sale, including an online petition, was based on misinformation spread online. Details of the investor’s offer that were meant to be kept from the public were leaked, leading to the spread of misinformation through social media.
