Ontario trees likely to be defoliated again this year

The destructive insect formerly known as the gypsy moth – rechristened LDD – is likely to defoliate trees again this season in southwestern Ontario. The Hamilton Conservation Authority suggests the moths have become an endemic and are no longer the once-in-10-years destructive pest they’ve been previously labelled. The insect is here to stay, a terrestrial ecologist with the authority, says, and will have to be dealt with continually.
