Demand for playing space has Grande Prairie pitching up to $10M for dome

Soccer club had to turn down 150 players due to lack of indoor playing facilities

The demand for indoor recreational space in Grande Prairie, Alta. has the city hoping a new domed facility will be available by next year.

The city is pitching up to $10 million toward the project. Deliberations are ongoing to determine a location for such a facility. Three possible locations are under consideration.

The local soccer association says about 150 players were turned away in the winter following the leisure centre’s closure. One of its two indoor pitches will continue operations while the other, which is located in a separate building, was shut down with the facility slated for demolition.
