Decorated pilot to keynote GIE + EXPO

April 11, 2019  By  Mike Jiggens

April 11, 2019 – The four associations that sponsor GIE+EXPO and Hardscape North America, the industry’s largest gathering, have announced a keynote for landscape and hardscape contractors at the 2019 event. “Never Fly Solo,” set for Wednesday, October 16, 2 – 3 p.m., will feature Lt. Col. Rob “Waldo” Waldman, who motivates business owners and crew members alike to trust their wingmen. Admission to the keynote, which is sponsored by John Deere, is included with registration.

On the heels of a successful co-hosted keynote in 2018, the GIE+EXPO/HNA partners, the National Association of Landscape Professionals, Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, Professional Grounds Management Society and Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute have again joined together bring all of their attendees together in one place to listen to a high-powered motivator.

“John Deere is thrilled to support the second joint keynote address with the GIE+EXPO and its partners – OPEI, NALP, PGMS and ICPI (Hardscape North America),” Ken Taylor of John Deere said. “We are confident that this year’s keynote address will be a highlight of the 2019 GIE+EXPO and we look forward to welcoming such a decorated American, Lt. Col. Waldo Waldman, to our industry’s biggest stage.’

Waldman overcame a lifelong battle with claustrophobia and a fear of heights to become a highly decorated fighter pilot with more than 65 real world combat missions. His experiences, both in the military and business, have taught him that success is about camaraderie, courage and a commitment to excellence.

His energetic keynote is not about relating combat tactics to winning in business. Rather, it’s about focusing on what really matters in business – building high-performance, trusting teams and fully serving your customers and co-workers. Waldman’s customized business analogies and captivating personal stories will encourage attendees to prepare diligently for every mission, face challenges and change with courage, build more meaningful relationships, and maximize potential both in business and in life.

GIE+EXPO and HNA 2019 dates are Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 16-18. The show floor will open for contractors Wednesday at 3 p.m., immediately following the keynote. Attendees can enjoy a welcome reception until 7p.m. Thursday hours, indoors and out, are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Friday the indoor exhibits will be open 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., and outdoor exhibits will be open 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
