Children’s book promotes nature, environmentalism

September 20, 2019  By  Mike Jiggens

Sept. 20, 2019 – Turf and grounds maintenance professionals who are proponents of sustainability and environmentalism and who wish to inspire the next generation with their passion may want to look no further than their own children to take up the mantle.

With Christmas season approaching, a potential gift idea that helps promote these attributes as well as a passion for the outdoors is a book called “Forest Club,” published by the Quarto Group. Written by Kris Hirschmann and illustrated by Marta Antelo, the book presents a year of activities, crafts and nature exploration aimed to spark a child’s imagination.

The book, priced at $20.95 Canadian, covers all four seasons for a year-round resource for inspiration, encouraging screen-free activities the entire family can enjoy. The book of activites is aimed at children between the ages of seven and 11. Its visually stunning presentation aims to “rewild the child” in an effort to reconnect children to nature and the outdoors. While all crafts and activities are designed to be conducted outdoors, they are interspersed with factual, easy-to-read pages about flora and fauna that can be enjoyed at home or used as a field guide while out and about. The crafts and activities take in all four seasons, allowing the book to be enjoyed 365 days of the year.
