Yesterday was international “Thank a Superintendent Day” in the golf world. The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) marked the special day, encouraging those who enjoy golf to thank their golf course’s superintendent.
Aside from the CGSA, other organizations commemorating the day included the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (CGSAA), the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), the Australia Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA) and The Federation of European Golf Greenkeepers Associations (FEGGA). The groups represent more than 31,000 golf course management professionals from more than 80 countries from around the world.
The special day was initiated last year. Superintendents and the work they do have been captured in a commercial.
Several Canadian superintendents have been profiled by the CGSA, including notes from their courses and their best advice. Those professionals include: Bert McFadden; David Linstead; Derek Wirth; Doug Leavins; James Bryce; Keith Lyall; Kendall Costain, MS; Luc Ladouceur; Marc Altese; Michael Roberts; and Paul MacCormack.
“Thank a Superintendent Day” coincided with the CGSA’s Fall Field Day at the Summerlea Golf & Country Club in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que. The event allowed superintendents to share education, networking and a game of golf.
