CanWest to feature several North American speakers

August 29, 2016  By  Mike Jiggens

The speaker program has been announced for September's CanWest Horticulture Expo in Abbotsford, B.C.

The event is sponsored by the B.C. Landscape and Nursery Association. Confirmed speakers are coming from both British Columbia as well as other North American locations. CanWest is scheduled for Sept. 27-29 at Tradex in Abbotsford.

This year's education program includes dynamic sessions, power clinics, and information symposiums which focus on topics relevant to the horticulture industry. The speakers will be covering topics such as invasive species, rain gardens, rain water harvesting systems, new tree bylaws, colour theory, internet marketing, and merchandising. The sessions offer registrants the opportunity to earn continuing education units from International Society of Arboriculture and the Pesticide Applicator Re-Certification Program. Guest speakers include Owen Dell, Richard Hallman, Linda Cahan, Sean James, Kerry Ann Mendez, among others.

New this year is a stone walling workshop exclusive for women. Instructed by master craftsman Brian Fairfield, from Main Stonework, the stone walling workshop uses age-old techniques to cover the basics of building traditional dry stone walls. Over the past 10 years, Fairfield has studied with master level craftsmen domestically and internationally. He also holds an advanced certificate and instructor's certificate with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain.
