Maskwacis Louis Bull Tribe is the lone Alberta recipient of funding from the Toronto Blue Jays’ Jays Care Foundation.
Funds will be used to build, enhance or refurbish baseball diamonds in the community to help youth develop life skills. A statement posted to the community’s Facebook page noted funds from the Jays’ charity will give athletes a safe place to play, learn and grow.
A spokesman for the Jays Care Foundation said the building of community baseball diamonds helps youth form lasting relationships and a sense of belonging as well as the ability to learn from positive role models.
The Blue Jays charity has supported 163 field projects throughout Canada over the past decades with funding of almost $15 million.
