Armstrong, B.C. councillor wants referendum for public to decide golf property’s fate

Ratepayers on the hook if plan approved, he says

Plans to reduce the size of the Overlander Golf & Events Centre (formerly the Royal York Golf Course) in Armstrong, B.C., while adding 140 new housing units, should be left in the public’s hands to decide, a city councillor suggests. Third reading was given to the re-designation bylaw at council’s meeting last week, but several members of the public who spoke at the hearing’s outset called for a referendum on the matter. Coun. Jim Wright, the lone council member opposed to the changes, said ratepayers will be burdened with additional costs if the the development proposal is approved.
