99 per cent of unprotected ash trees are killed within 8-10 years of insect entering region
Hundreds of thousands of trees already killed

The emerald ash borer has wiped out hundreds of thousands of Canadian ash trees since its presence in the country was first reported 20 years ago. Natural Resources Canada says once the invasive insect is introduced to a region, upwards of 99 per cent of unprotected ash trees will be killed within eight to 10 years.
